OVERVIEW

APTNER pass is a service embedded within APTNER's app, designed to help residents reserve communal activities and amenities in advance within apartment complexes. As the sole UI/UX Designer in a team of five (Project Manager, Frontend Engineer, Backend Engineer, and pass Customer Service Manager), I was responsible for revamping the user experience for APTNER pass users to v2.0. This involved creating a seamless user flow and integrating a user interface that aligned with APTNER's existing design system.

THE PROBLEM

Inconsistent UI led users to confusing user experiences

Over the past five years, the APTNER mobile app has undergone multiple redesigns, while the APTNER Pass has remained unchanged. As an embedded service within the APTNER app, users must first navigate through the main APTNER app to access APTNER pass. However, the stark contrast in visual design has led to user confusion, creating a disjointed flow and an inconsistent overall experience.

KEY INSIGHTS

How do users perceive the inconsistent interface within the app?

Based on user insights from guerrilla testing with residents at APTNER's partnering complex, Ansan Granx1 City II, I learned that many APTNER Pass users hold frustration over design inconsistencies, redundant features, and inconsistent spacing and color usages.

SOLUTION

Develop APTNER pass design system for a consistent experience

To create a cohesive experience, I utilized the APTNER design system and then developed additional necessary UI components specific to those for APTNER pass's unique features.

Using key design system elements foundational to the APTNER app, such as typography, colors, spacing, dividers, and more, I redesigned the APTNER pass UI to ensure a consistent user experience across both services.

While the APTNER app focuses on residential lifestyle services like parking management and home security, APTNER pass specializes in amenity reservations. As a result, unique features and user flows specific to APTNER pass had to be developed. Following the APTNER design style, I created new UI components tailored for APTNER pass.

TAKEAWAY

Impact

Implementing the design system to create a more cohesive experience across both the APTNER and APTNER pass apps resulted in improved usability and higher user satisfaction, as evidenced by user testing with 10 previous APTNER pass users.
